HELP Debate, which is held annually by HELP University alongside the assistance of WoLCE, organized the preliminary rounds for a debate tournament on the 22nd and 23rd of July 2023. A total of three teams from the Kuen Cheng High School English Debate Club were sent to compete in the tournament.
Day one of the preliminaries was held on the 22nd of July 2023. There were a total of three rounds being held. The debate teams spent their time preparing in the school library during the first round of the debate. All teams brought pride to Kuen Cheng High School by winning the first round.

The first day of preliminaries ended at 6 pm sharp. All members were exhausted from the debates but gathered their courage to go for day two the next day. The second day began at 10 am, with the competing members exhausted but raring to go. Everyone gathered in one place to prepare for the competition better. They faced the last two rounds of the preliminary round to the best of their abilities.

After all the rounds ended, everyone gathered together for the break announcements. Team B with a total of three wins and a higher speaker score made it to the break, Teams A and C on the other hand, unfortunately, did not qualify for the break with three wins and two wins respectively. Aside from that, the members also got a peek at their individual performances at the speaker score tabs.
This has been a great learning experience and many members have shown explosive growth throughout the competition, constantly improving. Although the members were disappointed in the results, a fire has been lit in them as they look forward and can’t wait to compete again soon.
