On the 7th of April, Kuen Cheng High School Debate Club held a welcoming party for the new members of the club. Instead of the usual classrooms, all club members were told to gather in front of the school’s main hall. After making sure that everyone was present, all club members excluding the Committee were split into teams to continue on the day’s activity. Pizza and carbonated drinks were prepared for the welcoming party.

After the meal, club members were instructed to sit according to their teams. The Club President gave a short introductory speech before the activity coordinators explained that the game the club members would play was based on a murder story. The story was about a boss who owned a confidential file worth millions. One day, she found her partner dead in her study and her safe had been broken into. The club members played the role of detectives who had to help solve this case.

Short Introduction by the Club President

There were ten teams in total, and two teams competed in each mini-game. These pairs of teams would then switch games after a certain amount of time. The winners of each mini-game obtained clues from both stationmasters while the losers could only choose from and receive one of the two clues. With each game containing a true and a false clue, the club members would have to deduce what was true or false with logic and reasoning.

There were 5 mini-games in total. The first game was ‘Hug Together’ (报在一起). The club members had to compete to see which group had the most members standing on an open newspaper, and their feet were not allowed to touch the ground outside of the newspaper. The second game is ‘Staying Unmoved’ (宝持不动). Members must pull down a cloth laid atop a table with a bottle standing upright on top of it, with them succeeding if the bottle doesn’t fall.

The third game is ‘Move the Bean’ (移相思). If each member of the teams were told to take turns picking up and transporting 5 beans using chopsticks within a certain time. The team with the most beans in the cups at the end would be the winners. Next, is ‘Flip the Cup’ (竞速反杯). The members had to take turns flipping the paper cup over by hand. The team that flips the most cups wins. The team with the higher score is the winner. The last game is ‘Guess the Drawing’ (画画接龙). The members had to stand in line and take turns drawing on their teammate’s back with a chopstick and the last person had to guess what the drawing was. The team with the correct answer automatically wins.

As the games came to an end, it was announced that only one group managed to find out the identity of the murderer, and it was the boss’s driver along with the housekeeper as the accomplice. It was revealed that the victim had walked in on the driver as he was stealing the boss’s documents and was murdered by him. The housekeeper witnessed the scene soon after but was bribed by the driver before they both walked on out like nothing happened.

Before coming to a closing, the winning team was awarded with extra side dishes to share. The welcoming party then came to an end with a group photo to commemorate the event.
