Following the second ‘independent learning day’ of the year, the teachers of the Physical Education Department of Kuen Cheng High School organised a “Rhythm” themed Dance Learning Activity for all Senior Middle 2 students. The event was held in order to keep students physically active while also allowing them to have some fun with it.

As students filled into the open-air parking lot, the Head of the Physical Education Department, Mr Lim Siang Sheng, welcomed the students and hoped they would enjoy the event. Additionally, Madam Chong Siew Fah gave her regards to the students and teachers in charge as well, giving thanks to the sports clubs’ students who trained 2 weeks ahead to demonstrate the dance to the rest of the students.

Welcoming Speech by Head of the Physical Education Department, Mr Lim Siang Sheng

Dancing to the rhythm of the song “Handclap”, the event soon started with a demonstration by the sports clubs’ students before the Assistant Head of the Physical Education Department, Mr Loh Liang Wei, broke each move down into simple steps for students to follow along and learn the dance. Meanwhile, other physical education teachers stood by the sidelines to help supervise the students, and assist them in learning the dance.

Soon after learning all the dance moves, the students started a practice round of the full song at 0.5x speed, giving them ample time to put everything together and dance along to the actual song. Before going into the final product, they practised once more at 0.8x speed. During the final round, students were filmed dancing as they worked hard to look their best.

At the end, the teachers applauded the students for being able to learn the full dance within less than 2 hours. With that, the event came to a close as students thanked the teachers for their guidance and left for a well-deserved rest during recess.
