Online co-curricular activities have been the norm ever since the outbreak of pandemic. However, in 2023, things are about to change. On the 3rd of February, the presidents, secretaries and treasurers from each club were called for a scheduled briefing with the teachers from the co-curricular department, starting off the year of offline club activities.

At 12:15 a.m., students gathered at the school’s auditorium entrance for attendance before entering the venue. The students were seated alongside teachers from each club. Before the briefing started, the Principal gave a warm welcome to the teachers and students, expressing her gratitude and appreciation. She hopes that all clubs could work together and organise events to commemorate the school’s 115th anniversary this year.

Firstly, the briefing started with the Admin Head of the Co-curricular Department, Madam Hee Siaw Fuey, giving a brief introduction regarding the teachers in-charge-of the department. She talked about several precautions of which both students and teachers need to take note. She also stated that club activities are resuming after the 20th of March and closing at the end of September. However, Senior Middle 3 students are less fortunate, their club activities will stop on the 12th of June and their club fees will be halved. She believes that since this is the first year of offline club activities since the pandemic, there is much for each club to learn.

Next, the Assistant Head of the Department, Madam Lai Yan Qiu briefed each club secretary about their job scope and duties. Afterwards, she gave clear instructions about the application process for different activities and attendance. She reminded the secretaries to be extra careful when taking attendance and that they should inform the department of any issues. Furthermore, she reminded the secretaries of each club to submit the club committee name list by the 7th of April.

Afterwards, the another Assistant Head of the department, Madam Lim Bee Hsiang explained the duties of the treasurers. The duties included the payment of club fees, pocket cash applications, expenditure applications, filling in teacher or trainer attendance forms and bookkeeping. She explained all the duties concisely and with great care. She also stated that the notice regarding the online payment of club fees will be released on April 1st, and students are to start paying their respective fees.

Finally, the briefing ended with the Head of the Department thanking everyone for their participation. Any problems students had were answered by teachers who stayed after the briefing, other students then returned to their classrooms.
