After many months of waiting, the 2022 Junior Unified Examination Certificate (JUEC) results have finally been released. This year, 186 students managed to get 6 to 8 A’s in the examination, which is 42 more students than last year. 6 students, in particular, scored 8 A’s in the examination, which was a considerable feat. Let’s hear what the top scorers this year have to say regarding this news.
2022 JUEC Results
Goh Jian Mayne Sr1ScB
Jian Mayne from Sr1ScB
Like most people, Jian Mayne was ecstatic when he received his result of 6 As. However, he thinks the standard this year was much lower than in previous years because he believed he performed terribly in the examinations. Despite this, he is mostly satisfied with the results he got.
Before the examination, he studied all the examination material he could find from online sources and books. He also did all of his past-year papers that were given by his teachers. For Jian Mayne, language subjects were a challenge for him. As such, he studies reference books and writes essays to improve his proficiency in language subjects.
Of course, students could not have achieved such marvellous results without motivation and hard work. Jian Mayne’s main motivator for such brilliant results was to finally enter the senior years of high school filled with joys and laughs.
Lim Jun-Hung Sr1ScA
Jun-Hung from Sr1ScA
Jun-Hung was delighted when he saw his result of 7 A’s, which came as a surprise to him. As the saying goes, you reap what you sow. Due to his dedication and hard work, this result was expected by his peers. Since he scored so well, he says that he is very satisfied.
He put a lot of emphasis on studying science, history and geography subjects. His habit was to read textbooks and his notes before doing past-year questions. This helped him understand the scope of his understanding and knowledge. Whenever he encounters questions that he is not familiar with, he will revise the topic again to find the answers and to grasp a deeper understanding of the topic. He advises others to find past-year questions on the DongZong website or to buy past-year question books.
Jun-Hung’s motivations stem from his learning environment. He says that he will feel left out if he is the only one fooling around whilst others are working hard preparing for the examination. He feels that having a group of studious friends is very important as you can help each other and learn much more in the process.
Wong Jun Sheng Sr1ScA
Jun Sheng from Sr1ScA
Naturally, Jun Sheng was thrilled to see the fruits of his labour. He described the waiting process for the results as unbearable and said it reminded him of waiting for his UPSR results. However, unlike his UPSR results, getting 7 A’s filled him with joy instead of disappointment.
He started preparing for the examination a few weeks before, reading the textbook to get a good idea of what he needed to focus on. He memorised the keywords and main points by highlighting and underlining them, colour coding and organising the textbook. After understanding the reading material, he would familiarise himself with the format through past year’s papers. It allowed him to identify parts where he didn’t understand and allowed him the chance to strengthen them.
Jun Sheng’s motivation comes from his determination to become a doctor. He realised that if he did not prioritise his studies, it would be hard to achieve his dreams. Peer pressure also played a big part in working hard for JUEC. He advises the Junior Threes this year to try their best, and the most important thing in these situations is their attitude.
Brandon Yong Zhan Onn Sr1ScB
Brandon from Sr1ScB
Brandon felt a sense of joy rush through him as he held his result slip. After months of hard work and dedication, he finally lived up to his expectations and got 7 A’s in JUEC. He felt relieved and gratified, as his months spent preparing for this exam had finally paid off.
Brandon said that he constantly did exercises to prepare for this exam, even sacrificing his holiday sitting in his room. He also acquired tips from his seniors on how to prepare for the exam, such as techniques to answer questions or important things that he should look out for. He also revisited the Junior One and Two syllabuses constantly, and advised the juniors to do so too, as they might forget key information that will appear on the exam.
The company of his family, teachers and friends helped him to get through this tough time, and he says that everyone’s constant encouragement and motivation allowed him to keep his spirits up. He advises the juniors to prepare earlier to not have to rush with last-minute revision and to believe in themselves as hard work will pay off eventually.
Jun Koi from Sr1ScC
For Jun Koi, getting 6 A’s in the JUEC examination was unprecedented for him. He says that even though others have gotten better results, he still feels proud nonetheless. He feels glad that his hard work has finally paid off although he did not expect to get this far.
He spent countless evenings reading through textbooks, workbooks, tests and past-year questions. He completed several mock exams available on the school website which helped him immensely. Since the Chinese subject was one of his weakest subjects, he filled his notes with translations of terms he was more familiar with to help refresh his memory regarding the subject. Jun Koi also sought out plenty of external help from his classmates and teachers for studying tricks and pieces of advice.
Most of his hard work was aimed towards the trial exam, not JUEC. This is because he was trying to enter the science stream in his senior year. His efforts never failed him though, as he got into the science stream with relative ease. The results he got from the JUEC examination were merely a beneficial byproduct of his hard work.
