A new year, a new beginning. Kuen Cheng High School has ushered in the 2023 Academic Year with the arrival of a batch of new teachers.

Teachers are torchbearers of the future who shape generations by means of proper guidance. In order to ensure a quality education to students, the management of the School gives top priority to the training of teachers, especially those who are new to the teaching profession. On the 3rd and 4th of January, 2023 Orientation of New Teachers was held to provide newly-hired teachers with a great onboarding experience. Under the guidance of the Teachers’ Professional Development Executive, Madam Dr. Wong Cheng Yoke, eleven volunteer teachers from the 2022 batch of new teachers executed the event. This program allowed the new hires to enhance their understanding of the School and familiarize themselves with the resources and facilities available for use.

Key highlights of the two-day event include the sharing from the Principal and her fellow Administrators. The Principal, Madam Dr. Chua Lee Lee stated that it is essential for teachers to adapt and equip themselves with tools and techniques that meet the needs of today’s students. She further reiterated that our students need to develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills so that they learn how to tackle real-world problems amidst the evolving education trends. Madam Koo Lai Ping, the Vice Principal shared the history, philosophy of Kuen Cheng High School, whereas Madam Chuah Ang Leng, the Head of Human Resources and Finance shared the management policy as well as relevant training and development opportunities for all teachers and employees. Besides that, the Admin Head, Madam Chua Wei Ling and the Assistant Admin Head, Ms. Lim Jia Shin, both from the Discipline Department, explained the Rules and effective Classroom Management that is associated with higher levels of school connectedness. A role play was conducted in which new teachers acted out a classroom scenario in groups. They gained valuable insights from the experienced teachers’ feedback and suggestions.

Overall, the attendees responded that they benefited greatly from joining the program, meeting their supportive colleagues and making connections prior to the start of the new academic year.
