On the 30th of August 2022, Kuen Cheng High School Library organized a picture book-sharing session by Mr Wong Toh Thong, who was a former teacher from our Sejarah Department. The book series shared by Mr Wong is “Nostalgia” by Yong Pei Shan. Mr Wong chose 9 chapters from the series, including “Red Garlic Celery Shallots”, “Bong”, “Outcast”, “Nameless Bridge”, “Chinese New Year on Water”, “Child of the Sky”, “Strength Depends On Peace and Stability”, “Bayan River Boat Race”, and “It Is Said That You’re From Sarawak”.

The sharing session started at 3:15 p.m. with an introduction by the emcee. Mr Wong then took over the baton by sharing some of the author’s background and a photo with her. He then shared the index of the book series. Some chapters were about politics while some were about the beauty of nature. All of the stories were adapted from true stories. For example, “Outcast” is a story adapted from the author’s classmate who was fretful about his little brother and drowned him. “Red Garlic Celery Shallots” represents a blessing from the elders. From the story of “Bong”, Mr Wong shared a story of what he had seen as a volunteer at a drug addiction treatment center. He advises us to stay away from drugs as it causes serious damage to our body and mind.

“Nameless Bridge”, “Chinese New Year on Water”, and “Child of the Sky” mainly bring out morals about self-love and family love. From “Strength Depends On Peace and Stability”, Mr Wong shared ways to calm down quickly. Mr Wong also shared some inspirational quotes like “Every problem that makes you bruised will eventually become your strongest weapon”. Every chapter covers different problems in real life and how to tackle them. Like“Bayan River Boat Race” and “It Is Said That You’re From Sarawak”, a comedy video about the misunderstanding of West Malaysians about Sarawakians was shared.

After the sharing of all twelve chapters, Mr Wong concluded the moral values of all stories. The sharing session then ended with a Q&A session and a group photo.
