In order to improve students’ ability to express themselves in languages and discover students’ speaking talents, Kuen Cheng High School organised a trilingual speech competition, which consists of two categories: Senior and Junior. On the 25th of August, the finals of the Chinese speech competition for the Junior group was held in the Auditorium during the first recess.
The participants who got through the preliminary rounds drew lots to decide the topic for their speech and wrote their scripts 30 minutes prior to the contest. The Auditorium was filled with the participants’ classmates, all here to cheer on their friends. The emcees greeted and welcomed everyone present in the auditorium, and stated the judging criteria. The emcees also introduced the judges, which are Mr. Ting Thiam Hock, Ms. Giam Wai Shan and Ms. Ooi Ciat Min.

Each participant was given three minutes to give their speech, and the bell rang once when there were 2 minutes left and twice when there was 1 minute left. Next up, the second participant, Tan Lyi Yett spoke about her childhood and shared a story about her primary school days, when she was a monitor. She locked her class door and later forgot where she placed the keys, only to find it at the canteen, at the spot where she had her food. The third participant, Ngo Kar Min, gave a speech about her youth, telling the audience to cherish youth and to have a clear goal in order to get one step closer to their dreams. She also advised the audience to bravely go for their dreams with firm steps and to enjoy their youth days.
