Even under the discourse of a debate, we communicate, and remain together. On the 6th of August, The 1st Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Negeri Sembilan Independent Chinese Secondary Schools Chinese Debate Competition (Junior) was organized by The United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, in cooperation with Hin Hua High School and Kuen Cheng High School.

The preliminary rounds were held in Hin Hua High School while the semi-finals and finals were held in Kuen Cheng High School. Participants from independent chinese schools all over Selangor and Kuala Lumpur joined the competition, with just four schools left in the semi-finals, namely:

  • Confucian Private Secondary School
  • Hin Hua High School
  • Kwang Hua Private School
  • Pin Hwa High School Klang

The participants arrived at 8:15a.m. and were ushered to their preparation rooms. The semi-finals started at 9:30a.m. with Confucian Private Secondary School up against Pin Hwa High School, and Hin Hua High School up against Kwang Hua Private School.

The stance for Confucian Private Secondary School was “High IQ Brings Happiness” while Pin Hwa High School stood for the notion that “High EQ Brings Happiness”. Both teams excelled in the debate, with Pin Hwa High School coming up on top and into the finals.

Meanwhile in the other semi-finals, Hin Hua High School debated on the topic of “Young People Need Addition” whereas Kwang Hua Private School debated on “Young People Need Subtraction”. The audience enjoyed the debate as both teams made an all-out effort in which Hin Hua High School won and got into the finals.

A break was later issued up until 12:30p.m. before all the participants and audiences were ushered to the auditorium where the finals would be held with participants from Pin Hwa High School and Kwang Hua Private School as the finalists. Guests from The United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, including President Mr Chua Kim Boon, were present as the competition started.

With the motion “I Want to Be an Influencer in the Future”, Pin Hwa High School debated as the affirmative stance while Kwang Hua Private School debated as the opposition. The audience watched in anticipation as the participants from both schools debated, eager to win.

The debate ended off in heat and intensity as the five judges discussed their final decisions before bringing forth the final verdicts. An event closing ceremony with awards ceremony was held after the judges gave comments on the debaters performance. Tan Sri William Cheng Heng Jem, Chairman of the Board of Kuen Cheng High School and Mr Chua gave their final speech concluding the whole event.

Following up, the awards ceremony started. A participation award was given to every school’s representative following with the best debater award to the best of all in every round of the competition. Last but not least, the overall champion was given to Hin Hua High School, having all their participants on the stage together with the champions. Along with that was the Best Speaker of the whole competition, 陈盈盈 from Hin Hua High School.

Before the event came to a close, a group photo was taken for memory. The event ended in success and enlightenment as everyone cherished such an experience.
