From the 27th to the 30th of December, the Chinese Calligraphy Club of Kuen Cheng High School held a virtual exhibition displaying the masterful works created by their club members and alumni. The theme of the exhibition was 《修·悟》, to refine one’s skill and be enlightened in their craft. This encapsulated how club members were only able to practice Chinese calligraphy online due to the pandemic. They learned to understand the spirit behind calligraphy in the process of refinement and create their very own works.

Hosted on a website, the exhibition displays an “about” page of the Chinese Calligraphy Cub. The page depicts the history of the club from its formation in 1971 to the present. Following after, the page introduces the club’s coach who graduated from National Taiwan Normal University with a bachelor’s in arts and took up various related jobs before becoming the coach of Kuen Cheng High School’s Chinese Calligraphy Club. Along with that, the site mentions several of the club’s past events including organizing workshops, exhibitions and more.

The second page of content on the site briefly explains the motives behind Chinese calligraphy and how it is depicted as a traditional form of art. Below that, the site shows the evolution of Chinese lettering, which dates back to the various dynasties of Ancient China. Next up, an explanation of the Four Treasures of the Study is given on the site, that being the calligraphy brush, ink, paper and inkstone. Further details are also given for each treasure.

The last section of the website exhibits the fruitful works of the Chinese Calligraphy Club, some even made by the Club’s alumni. Even members as young as the age of 13 contributed their works to the exhibition, amazing the eyes of many and showing just how much diligence pays off.
