The BBC Learning English site offers a wide range of features, including various courses, quizzes, practices, dramas and even podcasts. Not only does the site cover grammar and vocabulary, it also does so by using videos to help you visualize and listen to what you’re learning. Get tired of listening and watching after a while? No worries, the site’s got you covered with written transcripts below each video. Furthermore, if you answer wrongly in quizzes, the site includes explanations as to what the question requires. This way, self-studying and practicing English should be a breeze as long as you give it a shot.
Quiz Mistake Correcting
Besides improving your linguistic skills, you can also learn fascinating facts from the practices. For example, tracing your family history and discovering how your ancestors lived hundreds of years ago can be researched through the census, but what is a census and how does it help? The answers to those questions can be found by checking out one of the latest practices in BBC Learning English titled “Making Sense of the Census”.
Another interesting example of a comprehension practice given by BBC Learning English would be their newest drama series titled “Father and Son”. The drama is about a father who appears to be missing along with his 4 year old son. His wife then decides to report the sudden incident to the police. They investigate further only to find out that the case is more serious than they originally thought it to be.
So far, the site has uploaded 5 episodes of the drama, each being under 6 minutes long and very simple to understand, perfect for anyone who is interested in crime fiction yet does not want to spend too much time watching a long-winded series. Each of the episodes include a short 3-question activity to test the user’s comprehension of the drama as well. For those who have a harder time listening to the characters speaking, the site even includes subtitles which you can enable yourself.
