Kuen Cheng High School has two proud winners this year from Young Author Award 2020. They are Ariel Lim Xin Yue (16375) from Senior 2 Commerce B Class, winning the Overall First Prize and Tan Hong Zher (20423) from Junior One F Class winning a Consolation Prize. It was definitely an achievement to both Ariel and Hong Zher as well as a great honour to Kuen Cheng High School. Both of the students grow and reinforce a passion for writing; firm believers of practice makes perfect. Flowers in Your Hair was the winning piece from Ariel. She will be one of the participants to represent Malaysia to compete in the upcoming Asian Young Author Award in Singapore.
According to the organiser of the event, the aim of this competition is to nurture the next generation of thinkers and writers. This competition is to identify the best talents that will go on to represent the Regional Young Author Award (YAA) — to be held in Singapore in October 2020. YAA aims to recognise the most prolific budding writers in the region.
Our student participants in both the above competitions proved to be independent learners, having obtained the initiative and also the potential to scale for higher achievements. They have acquired the fundamental information and communications technology (ICT) skills as well as a good knowledge in English. The School is delighted in seeing the new development of the overall high standard of English language proficiency and latest success our students have achieved in the English competitions. We look forward to having active participation from more of our students!
