On this auspicious day of 3 April 2019, Kuen Cheng High School and Kuen Cheng Kindergarten jointly held our 48 th Sports Day at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Kuala Lumpur. Teachers and students arrived early to make preparation for the annual event. Parents of the students from kindergarten have also been invited to join the occasion.
The event was graced with the presence of our beloved and much respected Board Vice Chairman Madam Tan Tat Chin, Secretary Datuk Chong Tho Chin, Vice Secretary Madam Chow Sow Fong and Committee Member Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Lim Gait Tong. Our Principal, Dr Chua Lee Lee, Deputy Principal Madam Chong Siew Fah and Vice Principal Ms Koo Lai Ping were also present to give their strongest support.
At the beginning of the opening ceremony, we sang our National and School Anthem with the utmost respect. In the speech of Madam Tan Tat Chin, she had quoted the current president of the Peking University, Mr Wang Enge. “One must have two friends in their life; one is the library and the other one is a sports field. We brush up our knowledge in the library and improve our physical fitness on the sports field, only then we will be able to contribute to the community that we are in.” After the opening speech, in front of the audience, students’ representative swore the athlete’s oath. This was followed by the Sports Day Anthem, performances by the kindergarten kids and the 24 Festive Drums Club. The ceremony ended in a thunderous applause by the Dance Performance presented by all Senior Three students.
Throughout the day, many competitions took place, such as hurdling, relays, short distance and middle distance running, long jump as well as the high jump. All the athletes had displayed their strength and determination in a best performance in their respective games, after having gone through the month-long practice and training. Although some of them were injured, they did not simply give up. They persevered, continued to take up the challenge and had shown great sportsmanship until they completed the contest. Dedicated members of our St John Team, the Police Cadets, Prefects, Girl and Boy Scouts, Counseling Club, Photography Club, Environment Protection Society, Broadcasting Club as well as the Interact Club contributed their concerted effort in making this Sports Day a success and great one!
In her closing remarks, our Principal, Dr Chua Lee Lee thanked everyone who had participated and helped in the event. Last but not least, our Senior Three students presented another round of dance performance at the end of the Sports Day. And, it was truly a fruitful and happy day!
