Eight Combined Chinese Independent Schools Kuala Lumpur and Selangor
On the 25 of July 2014, our school hosted the 2nd English Forum which was organized by the United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. The forum aimed at encouraging and promoting English Activities as well as providing an opportunity to empower speaking skills among the eight Chinese Independent schools. It was also a chance for the participants to share together their English ability. This event gave the eight schools an advantage in developing our English Language competence, especially the speaking skills. It pitted the talents of our school’s best speaker against the other eight schools.
Both, the Vice-Chairman, Madam Tan Tat Chin of the hosting school delivered the key-note address and Dr Yap Sin Tian, Chairman of the United Chinese Committees’ Association of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur presented his speech in support of the English forum. The event was graced by the three respected adjudicators: Dr Too Wei Keong- Assistant Professor at University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus, Dr Ng Siew Hua of HELP University and Madam Irene Wong Poh Sim-Head of Operations/Principal Trainer, ATCEN Learning Centre. It was an event of high standard. All the panelists in the forum spoke very convincingly hoping to be the BEST Chairperson or the BEST speaker. In the end, after a hard-fought battle, Ong jie Yee of Chong Hwa Independent High School, Kuala Lumpur emerged as the BEST Chairperson for the forum with their topic entitled, ‘Is it more important to avoid hurting people’s feelings or to tell the truth?’ The BEST speaker for the forum was Tung Su Cheng of Kuen Cheng High School, Kuala Lumpur. Their piece touched on, ‘The Causes and Effects of Child Abuse’. At the end of the day, all the participants were satisfied and happy with the outcome as they learnt something new. As a wise man said, “Tis not the result but the journey that matters most.” In our journey for success, we all learn many new things. A big thank you to Dr Too for giving the constructive and encouraging comments on behalf of the adjudicators, for the panelists to improve further. |
