On the 25th of August 2022, Kuen Cheng High School held the finals for the Senior Category Chinese Speech Competition. Before the finals, the preliminary round was held online, and contestants had to write their drafts within a time limit. Meanwhile, the finals were held at the School Auditorium. Finalists were required to write their draft on the spot 40 minutes before the competition starts.
The finals began at around 12.10 pm. The emcee greeted everyone and introduced the judges, Ms Theng Kai Joe, Mr Lian Jit Jing and Mr Pang Chung Seong.
The competition started with Hii Shan Wei with her speech entitled “Admitting A Mistake Is Not Admitting Defeat”, talking about how we could learn from our mistakes and be our better selves. Coming up next was Yeoh Jia Hui with her speech “ People Who Are Responsible Gets Popularity”. And that’s because they do things carefully and people trust them to get things done.
Moving on, Carmen Ngo started her speech entitled “Conscience Is Everyone’s Fairest Judgement ”. She used keyboard warriors and trolls on the internet as an example of how these people did whatever they want on the internet because they don’t have to be responsible for their actions.
Then, Koh Xin Yee in her speech ”Put Oneself In Someone’s Shoes” talked about how if we changed our mindset, or if we view something from a different point of view, we would think much more positively. Last but not least, Kwan Kai Lerk in his speech entitled “Conscience Is Everyone’s Fairest Judgement ” defines conscience as feeling happy when we do something good.
After all the finalists had completed their speeches, Ms.Theng Kai Joe went on stage and gave her feedback. According to her, the content was great and all the finalists did well.
The results were out very soon after. Mr Lian Jit Jing and Mr Goh Meng Soon were invited on stage to hand out the prizes.

-Excellence award – Yeoh Jia Hui, Koh Xin Yee
With that, the 2022 Chinese Speech Competition came to an end with a group photo. Congratulations to all the winners!
